The Story of the Brandau Family, Kaffee Provokateur, Sankt Augustin
Martina and Sven Brandau, the cross-border couple behind “Provokateure,” are carrying on the long and rich history of coffee. Their passion for coffee is deeply rooted in the past—from the cafés of the Ottoman Empire, where coffee was enjoyed as “wine from beans,” to Ethiopian coffee rituals. They believe the world is too colorful for simple black-and-white distinctions and want their coffee to stimulate the senses and offer positive inspiration.
Martina, who grew up in Salzburg, Austria, and Sven, from Hangelar near Bonn in Germany, share a passion for the careful handling of food and fine beverages. Their culinary expertise, combined with training at the Austrian Wine Academy and as a master coffee roaster, is reflected in their attention to detail and creativity. They gained their culinary experience while traveling around the world, always in search of new taste experiences.
As adventurers and passionate connoisseurs, Martina and Sven offer their fellow coffee lovers rich and full-bodied coffee journeys that span from South America to Africa and from India to Indonesia. Their goal is to help people experience the diversity of Arabica and Canephora beans, ranging from nutty to floral and fruity notes.
For Provokateur, the visual experience also plays an important role. Their unique bag designs invite you to explore, because they believe that the eyes also play a part in the enjoyment.
Martina and Sven see themselves as curious, passionate people who create and live their own world of coffee. They look forward to inspiring others to taste and enjoy their craft as well.
